there's a problem installing arcpad 8 evaluation on my notebook with windows vista (ultimate, 32 bit, german); the setup only works in the compatibility-mode (-> windows xp sp2; i have tried some things like disabling the uac, using another program path ... the setup stops, while copying esri_49.ttf to the fonts directory).
kind regards from austria

Ge-org,
Try closing any other applications that are open. I have found previously that internet explorer has had an effect on installing a few applications that as part of installation they install a font.

Hi,
You need to go an enable the extensions in the Options menu -> Advanced settings -> Extensions tab.
Make sure the sid and tiff extensions are turned on with the checkbox.
Cheers

I would like all to know that ARc Pad 8 does not work on Windows CE 5.0 we were unaware of this when upgrading. All Topcon GMS-2 run on Windows CE 5.0 this a top seller in the US market for GPS unit. Just a warning don't make the same mistake we made. Unfortunate when we only recently purchased Arc Pad 7 to be shut down on the upgrade.

They still have some bugs to work on. I find that arcpad 8 installed on my Nomad to be very sluggish. It works great on laptop. I don't think they had in mind that many people plan on using arcpad on pda platforms. I am going back to arcpad 7 until they work out the bugs.

Concur with the Win CE comment. We use Thales MobileMapper CE, and they run Win CE .NET. ArcPad 8 won't install.
